1. About these terms
These terms explain how you can use MyLegacyInfo (the “Service”). The Service is provided by MyLegacyInfo UK (“we”, “us”, “our”).
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. Please read them carefully. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
You can contact us at support [at] mylegacyinfo [dot] com.
2. What MyLegacyInfo is, and isn’t
MyLegacyInfo is a secure online place to organise and store information your family and executors may need: wills, wishes, finances, property, passwords, care preferences, documents and letters. It also lets you share that information with people you trust.
MyLegacyInfo is not a law firm, financial adviser or healthcare provider, and nothing in the Service is legal, financial, tax or medical advice. In particular:
- Will Builder: our Will Builder helps you prepare a will under the law of England and Wales. It is not suitable for wills under Scottish or Northern Irish law. A will is only valid if it is printed, signed by you and witnessed correctly: two independent witnesses must be present at the same time, and neither a witness nor their spouse or civil partner should be a beneficiary. A will stored in MyLegacyInfo is not a substitute for the signed original, so keep that somewhere safe and tell your executors where it is. If your affairs are complex (for example, you own a business, property abroad or have a blended family, or there are inheritance tax or trust planning considerations), please take advice from a solicitor.
- Care Plan and Emergency Card: these record your preferences. They are not a Lasting Power of Attorney or a legally binding Advance Decision. Medical professionals may not see them or be bound by them.
- Family Budget, valuations and financial records: these are tools to help you organise information. Figures may be estimates or extracted automatically and may contain errors, so please check them.
3. Your account
- You must be 18 or over and able to enter into a legally binding contract.
- The information you give us when you sign up must be accurate, and you must keep it up to date.
- You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything that happens under your account. Use a strong, unique password and tell us immediately if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- Accounts are personal. Don't share your sign-in details. Use the Trusted People feature to give others access instead.
- For security, accounts lock temporarily after repeated failed sign-in attempts.
4. Plans, payment and renewal
4.1 Plans
You can create an account without payment details, but you'll need a paid plan to use your vault. Trusted people don't need a plan to see what a vault owner has shared with them. Our current paid plans are:
- Complete: £2.99 a month or £29.99 a year.
- Family: £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year, covering up to 4 family members, each with their own private vault.
Prices include VAT where applicable. The features in each plan are described on our pricing page.
4.2 Payment and automatic renewal
Payments are processed by PayPal. Your subscription starts when your first payment is taken and renews automatically at the end of each monthly or annual period, at the then-current price, until you cancel. We'll remind you by email two to three weeks before an annual subscription renews.
If a payment fails, we'll email you and PayPal will try to take it again. Until it goes through, you won't have access to your vault. Your data is kept, and access comes back as soon as the payment is made.
4.3 Changing plans
You can change plan at any time. You approve the change in PayPal, and it takes effect as soon as you do. The new price applies from your next payment date. PayPal doesn't prorate, so there's no extra charge and no refund for the period you have already paid for.
4.4 Price changes
We may change our prices. If we do, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email, and the new price will apply from your next renewal after that notice. If you don't want to pay the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.
5. Cancelling and refunds
5.1 Your 14-day right to cancel
As a consumer, you have the legal right to cancel a new subscription within 14 days of buying it. If you've started using the paid Service within that time, we may deduct an amount proportionate to the service you used before you told us you were cancelling. To cancel within 14 days, email support [at] mylegacyinfo [dot] com. We refund through PayPal, to the account or card you paid with.
5.2 Cancelling at any other time
You can cancel at any time by emailing support [at] mylegacyinfo [dot] com. Your plan will continue until the end of the period you've already paid for, and won't renew. Apart from the 14-day right above, or where the law requires otherwise, we don't refund part-used periods.
5.3 Your data after cancellation
When your paid period ends, or a payment fails, you lose access to your vault, but we don't delete anything. Your vault stays locked until you take out a plan again. If you want it deleted, you can close your account from your Security page at any time, even without a plan, or ask us to do it. See our Privacy Policy.
6. Family plan
- The person who buys a Family plan (the “plan owner”) pays for it and can invite up to 3 other people, so the plan covers 4 members in total.
- Each member has their own private vault. The plan owner cannot see other members' vaults. A member can choose to share chosen sections of their vault, such as their finances or their Care Plan, with other members of the plan, one person at a time, and can stop sharing at any time.
- If the plan owner cancels the plan, members keep access until the end of the period already paid for, and any member can take the plan over by paying for it.
- If the plan owner removes a member, that member loses access straight away. They can take out their own paid plan to keep using their vault. Otherwise section 5.3 applies to their data.
7. Gift vaults
- A gift vault gives the recipient 12 months of the Complete plan. The recipient doesn't need to give card details to accept it.
- You must have the recipient's agreement, or reasonably believe they would welcome it, before giving us their name and email address.
- Gift invitations must be accepted within 12 months of purchase. Once accepted, the gift can't be refunded or exchanged for cash.
- Your 14-day right to cancel applies to unaccepted gifts. If the gift hasn't been accepted, you can get a full refund.
- Gift vaults do not renew automatically. Before the 12 months end, we'll invite the recipient to choose a paid plan. If they don't, section 5.3 applies to their data.
8. Trusted people
- You can invite executors, family members, solicitors or others to access your vault. Each trusted person needs their own MyLegacyInfo account, which is free for them. Once their access opens, they see your personal details, phones, key contacts, finances, assets, online accounts and wishes, including where your will is kept. They don't see your Care Plan, your Emergency Card or your budget.
- By default, a trusted person can only see your vault once we have verified your death (see below). You can choose to give someone access sooner. You also decide, person by person, whether they can see your passwords, and you choose which of your letters they can read and which of your documents, such as your signed will, they can open. Invitation codes are single-use and expire after 7 days. You can change permissions or revoke access at any time.
- You decide who sees what. We give trusted people access exactly as you set it, so please choose carefully and review your permissions regularly. We aren't responsible for what a trusted person does with information you've shared with them.
- If you are a trusted person, you must only use the information to help the vault owner or their estate, keep it confidential, and follow any instructions the vault owner left.
- A trusted person, or a member of the vault owner's family plan, can report the vault owner's death to us. We ask for supporting evidence, such as a death certificate, and email the vault owner straight away. They have 48 hours to tell us the report is wrong. Our team reviews every report, and trusted people only get access once we have approved it, after those 48 hours or sooner if the evidence is conclusive.
9. Password Vault and online accounts
The Password Vault helps you keep a secure record of your online accounts. Please be aware:
- Many banks, email providers and other online services don't allow anyone else to sign in to your account, even after your death. Doing so may breach their terms or, in some cases, the law.
- We recommend your executors use each provider's official bereavement or legacy contact process (for example, notifying a bank of a death, or using a provider's legacy contact settings), and treat the Password Vault as a list of what exists and where to find it.
- You're responsible for keeping stored credentials up to date. We can't guarantee that any stored password will still work.
10. Your content
- You own everything you put in your vault. You give us permission to store, process, encrypt, back up and display it only as needed to provide the Service to you and the people you share it with.
- You must have the right to upload any content you add, including information about other people and copies of documents.
- You can download the documents you have uploaded at any time.
- MyLegacyInfo isn't a backup of last resort. Keep original documents, such as your signed will and title deeds, safely elsewhere.
11. Acceptable use
You must not:
- use the Service for anything unlawful, fraudulent or harmful, including storing material you have no right to hold;
- try to access another person's vault or account without permission;
- probe, scan or test the Service's security, or interfere with or disrupt it (if you find a vulnerability, please report it to support [at] mylegacyinfo [dot] com);
- upload viruses or malicious code, or scrape, copy or reverse-engineer the Service, except as the law allows;
- resell the Service or use it to provide services to third parties without our written agreement.
12. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, text and branding, belongs to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use it in line with these terms. Will templates and guidance are provided for your personal use only.
13. Availability and changes to the Service
We work hard to keep the Service available and secure. However, we can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may need to carry out maintenance. We may improve or change features over time. If a change materially reduces what you've paid for, we'll tell you in advance, and you can cancel and receive a pro-rata refund for any unused prepaid period.
14. Suspending or closing accounts
You can close your account at any time from your settings. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if we are required to by law, or to protect the security of the Service or other users. Unless there's a legal or security reason not to, we'll give you notice and a chance to download your documents first. If we close your account without cause, we'll refund any unused prepaid period.
If we ever decide to stop providing the Service, we'll give you at least 90 days' notice, so you can download your documents, and refund any unused prepaid period.
15. Our responsibility to you
- If we fail to comply with these terms, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach or our negligence. We're not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable.
- We provide the Service for domestic and private use only. We're not liable for business losses, such as loss of profit or business opportunity.
- We aren't responsible for the validity or legal effect of any will or document you create or store. This includes wills that weren't properly signed or witnessed, or decisions made by executors, trusted people, courts or third parties.
- Except as set out in the next point, our total liability to you is limited to the greater of £100 and the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or to the Service. If a change is significant, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel before then, and we'll refund any unused prepaid period.
17. General
- Complaints: if you're unhappy with anything, please email support [at] mylegacyinfo [dot] com. We aim to respond within 5 working days.
- Transfer: we may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another organisation. We'll tell you if this happens, and it won't reduce your rights. You may not transfer your account to someone else.
- Third-party rights: no one other than you and us can enforce these terms.
- Severability: if a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest will still apply.
- Law and courts: these terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings there.
